Support

ITS provides best effort support for Mac OS X. Not all NIU enterprise applications are certified for Mac OS X compatibity.  When contacting the ITS Helpdesk for assistance, please specify which version of Mac OS X is on your system.  You can find the version, by choosing About this Mac from the Apple menu.

The AppleCare contract with Apple Computer, Inc and NIU gives the ITS Helpdesk access to the AppleCare Global Service Exchange resource site which includes:

  • Enhanced knowledge base for Apple products
  • Technical references, such as service manuals
  • A diagnostic matrix of error codes

Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Application Compatibility

  • Groupwise e-mail client is Leopard-compatible.
  • Prosoft Netware IP client 2.0.1 is Leopard-compatible. Version 2.0 is NOT.
  • Cisco VPN client 4.9.01 (0080) is not certified as Leopard-compatible but seems to work. Upgrading Mac OS X 10.5 to 10.5.1 or later may break VPN. If so, quit VPNClient and type this command in a Terminal window (open a terminal window from: Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal) sudo /System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN/CiscoVPN restart   You will need to provide your Mac OS X system account password. This will stop and restart the "VPN Subsystem" (the CiscoVPN.kext extension). Then you can close the Terminal window and retry the VPN client.
  • McAfee VirusScan 8.6 (Build 201 or higher) is Leopard-compatible.
  • SPSS 16.0.1 and 17 are Leopard-compatible.
  • Microsoft Office 2008 is Leopard-compatible.
  • VMware Fusion (version 1.1 includes support for Leopard).
  • Parallels Desktop for Mac (version 3.0 includes support for Leopard).
  • Boot Camp is included with Leopard but Windows is not.  You need a full Microsoft Windows install CD (not an upgrade CD) to install in Boot Camp. MS Windows running under Boot Camp is not supported by Apple (or ITS).
