NexTalk Telephony Services (NTS) facilitates communication between those who can hear and those who can't. All you need is a computer with Internet access and the software client installed on it. Messages are stored on a secure NIU server and can be automatically forwarded to an e-mail account.
Callers using a TDD/TTY dial NIU's main text telephony number, 1-815-753-2000, to see a menu.
To access a department or individual on campus using NexTalk, dial 1-815-753-2000. University Information Services will direct your call to the appropriate individual or department.
NexTalk is available in many ITS computer labs on the DeKalb campus. See NexTalk4.01d
On-campus departments and individuals can order NTS to receive TDD/TTY calls without the need for TDD/TTY or a special telephone line. NTS software is installed on one or more computers in the department. Installation and training are free. Each NTS client installed is $5.00 per month. There is no charge for persons who are deaf or hearing impaired.
Departments and individuals with NTS software can also dial out to TDD/TTY numbers using the NTS software.
