Departmental Cellular Phones

  • Complete and sign the Cellular Service Request Form & Acceptable Use Policy
  • Fax it or bring it in person to the ITS Contact Center in TS 114. The fax number is 1-815-753-9252.
  • The cell phone and any accessories can be picked up at the ITS Contact Center once the contract has been signed.

The following options are available:

  • Cigarette adapter
  • Leather case
  • Headset*** 
  • Free voicemail upon request
  • Free call features upon request:
    • Call Waiting
    • Three Way Calling
    • Call Forwarding

***Headset recommended if you will be using the phone in Chicago.  As of July 8, 2005 a Chicago city ordinance prohibits motorists driving within the city limits from using a cell phone without a hands-free device.

24 hour customer service provided by Verizon Wireless Customer Care.

Cellular Home Calling Area

The entire state of Illinois is the Home Calling Area for NIU cellular users. Cellular calls originating from Illinois to any destination in the continental United States will only be charged  applicable per minute airtime.

Calls originating outside Illinois to locations within the continental United States will be charged standard cellular phone rates that include both roaming and long distance charges.
